Mary, the New Eve

The Old Testament foreshadows the New Testament and the New Testament is the fulfilment of the Old Testament. First Century Christians and the ancient Jewish people knew the Old Testament from memory, & could easily see the relationship between the Old Testament texts & what the Apostles were handing on to them.

"In the Beginning..." ~ Gen 1:1
"In the Beginning..." ~ John 1:1

See? When John's Gospel was heard for the first time, immediately the Book of Genesis is called to mind. They both start out with the story of creation.

"And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day." ~ Gen 1:4-5

"In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." ~ John 1:4-5

This is typology, dictionary.com defines it as: a noun, meaning the doctrine or study of types or prefigurative symbols, especially in scriptural literature. When there is typology, so as "prefigurement" & that one is defined as: a verb, meaning to show or represent beforehand by a figure or type; foreshadow.

Does this sounds exactly like the Story of Creation?

DAY 1 - John's First Mention of the Messiah

DAY 2 - John 1:29 "The next day..."

DAY 3 - John 1:35 "The next day..."

DAY 4 - John 1:43 "The next day..."

DAY 7 - John 2:1 "On the third day there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee"

We remember Adam saying: "This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." ~ Gen 2:23

Adam refers to Eve as "Woman".

At the wedding in Cana: And Jesus said to her, "O woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come." ~ John 2:4

Jesus refers to Mary as "Woman".

Jesus is the new Adam & Mary is the new Eve. Adam & Eve share the same flesh and so does Jesus & Mary. Eve prompted Adam to do his first evil act; at the wedding, the new Eve prompts the new Adam to do His first glorious act - Jesus' first miracle.

Now, St Paul's words made sense when he said "Thus it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit." ~ 1 Cor 15:45 - Here, St Paul refers to Jesus as the "Last Adam." When the New Testament writers say "it is written", they are referring to the Old Testament. Where can we find the story of "Adam & Eve" again? Right, in the Book of Genesis - In the "Old Testament".

"As Eve was seduced by the word of an angel and so fled from God after disobeying His word, Mary in her turn was given the good news by the word of an angel, and bore God in obedience to His word. As Eve was seduced into disobedience to God, so Mary was persuaded into obedience to God; thus the Virgin Mary became the advocate of the virgin Eve." ~ St Irenaeus of Lyons - Early Church Father & Doctor of the Church. 185 AD

"My momma wears combat boots!" this is from one of Father John Corapi's homilies. I agree with him 100%, why?

Here...

Gen 3:15 (Douay-Rheims) "I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel." In Judges 4 we see Ja'el crushing the head of (Sis'era) Israel's enemy. In Judith 12 & 13 we see a similar situation here when Judith beheaded Holofernes - another one of Israel's enemies. Judith & Ja'el are just two of the women in the Bible prefiguring our Lady. So, just as they crushed the heads of Israel's enemies, so as our Lady as the new Eve crushes the head of the serpent, not with a tent peg or a sword, but with her SEED, JESUS, the FRUIT OF HER OBEDIENCE.

Eve is the "Mother of All the Living", just as Mary is the "Mother of All" who are alive in Jesus Christ.
